About Richard Boudier expert Hypnotherapist in Penarth, Cardiff and online

I’m Richard Boudier, a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist based in Penarth, seeing clients weekly at The Tuning Room in Cardiff Bay and online across South Wales.

I help people reduce stress, rebuild confidence, and feel more in control of their thoughts. Combining neuroscience, practical tools, and genuine compassion to create lasting change.

My Background

Before training as a hypnotherapist, I built my foundations in leadership and business, a journey that began in an unexpected way. At just 21, fresh from graduating in International Politics and History at Aberystwyth University, I was elected as the youngest ever Town Mayor of Aberystwyth. That experience taught me a huge amount about people, communication, and responsibility, lessons that have stayed with me ever since.

From there, I moved into retail management, first with Co-op and later with Tesco, where I discovered a passion for leading teams and helping people thrive in challenging, fast-paced environments. While at Co-op, I was also elected to the Co-op Group’s National Members’ Council, representing Welsh members and went on to serve on the Group’s Business and Finance Committee, gaining insight into how values-driven businesses can balance community purpose with commercial success.

Those roles taught me a lot about responsibility, people, and performance but also about stress, burnout, and how easily success can come at the expense of wellbeing. That personal experience led me to explore how the mind works and how change can happen at a deeper level.

My grandmother was a hypnotherapist, and I’d always been quietly curious about how something as natural as relaxation and focus could bring real psychological shifts. Years later, that early curiosity became my calling.

I trained with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT) in Bristol, earning both the Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH) .  I also completed a coaching  and mentoring skills course at Cardiff University, further strengthening my understanding of behaviour, motivation, and goal-setting.

I’m registered with the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). I’m also fully insured and Enhanced DBS-checked.

My approach with Hypnotherapy

My work is solution-focused, which means we look at what’s working and how to create more of it.

Sessions draw on neuroscience, positive psychology, and gentle hypnosis to quieten the mind and strengthen resilience.

I believe real change comes from clarity, compassion, and consistent progress, not perfection.

Many of my clients are professionals and high performers who want to manage stress more effectively, perform at their best, or rediscover balance after and before burnout.

Why I do this

My own experience of burnout showed me how hard it can be to slow down  and how powerful it is when you finally do.

What I love most about this work is helping people find that moment of calm clarity again, the point where the noise quietens and they start believing in their own strength, with a new positive forward thinking, hopeful mindset.

Every session is different, but the aim is always the same: to help you reconnect with the part of yourself that knows how to move forward and just what to do.

Where I work

I see clients from my quiet home practice in Penarth, once a week  at The Tuning Room in Cardiff Bay, and online across South Wales and the UK.

Each space is calm, confidential, and designed to help you feel at ease.
